Interview with a Stapler

At Crossmark HOST some things never change. This little office item has been around for a long time and is something that everyone needs at different times. He should always be found in the same place, but is never there. We decided to find out more about him and why he thinks he is important.

Interviewer:

Hey, Stapler. How are you getting on? Got stuck into anything interesting lately?

Stapler:

Muhammed Ali used to say to his children to know what their purpose is in life. Do you know yours? I know that as a stapler my purpose is all about security and creating order. My function is to secure two or more pieces of paper together. So, take that!

Interviewer:

Okay, that’s deep, but how was your week?

Stapler:

I am relaxed until someone decides that I need to be spring loaded and uses brute force trying to get the best out of me. I like to get stuck into things unless I feel out of my depth. I know my limitations.

Interviewer:

What’s your view on what others think of you?

Stapler:

I am often seen as the grim reaper in the office, because once that document is stapled together, it gets filed and may never see the light of day again. However it’s always a happy experience when these documents are used as confetti at party time.

Interviewer:

Tell me more about these happy experiences.

Stapler:

Sure, the relief on HR’s face when they are able to find me when they require my services. You should have seen their faces when they found me hidden under Lauren’s ‘Things to do’ file - Jeez that was heavy. Also the sense of satisfaction people get from the order I help create. That’s me - I help to plan and create order.

Interviewer:

Come on, I’ve seen you in times of chaos – you’re not that perfect!

Stapler:

Very true – But I have no control over how I am used.

Interviewer:

There’s word going around that you are viewed as being old? All this talk about a paperless office, what do you have to say about that?

Stapler:

You’re as old as the paper you feel. Paperless office is mumbo jumbo. However there are times when I do see that things leave a paperless trail. That’s cool. I can live with that.

Interviewer:

Well then, best if we leave you get on with things and catch up next week. Thanks for your time!
